JUST IN: Travellers trapped as gridlock grounds Lagos-Ibadan expressway

Commuters and motorists have been trapped and stranded in the traffic logjam along the Lagos – Ibadan expressway which has reportedly lasted for hours.

The gridlock, which has grounded the Sagamu-Interchange axis of the highway, is extending towards the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway and Abeokuta-Kobape-Siun- Sagamu Expressway (PMB Expressway).

Traffic officials who spoke with Daily Trust blamed the snarl on the road reconstruction along the highway.

Our correspondent reports many commuters resorted to using commercial motorcyclists or trekking along the Sagamu and Abeokuta routes.

Spokesman of the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency, Babatunde Akinbiyi, urged travellers to take alternative routes to avoid the traffic logjam.

“Consequently, travellers are advice to take the alternative routes below, particularly for those that are just driving towards the axis and for those that are already held up in the traffic jam, they should be patient and apply caution as TRACE, POLICE and the FRSC are already on ground and on top of the situation to resolve the traffic conflict.

“Nevertheless, operatives of security and safety services mentioned above are on ground managing the traffic challenge by preventing route violation and reckless driving, while the Construction Engineers are being contacted to open some closed axis to ease the gridlock and the backlog the unfortunate stand still has generated.

“However, any inconveniences is highly regretted,” Akinbiyi said in a statement. (Daily TrusT)
