The Federal Capital Territory is set to host top government officials, media executives, and thought leaders as the Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE) holds its annual conference on November 12 and 13, 2025.

The two-day event, which will take place at the Presidential Villa Banquet Hall and the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Conference Centre, Jahi, Abuja, is expected to attract no fewer than 500 participants, including editors from print, broadcast, and online media, as well as members of the business community, diplomatic corps, and policymakers.

According to a statement signed by the NGE President, Eze Anaba, and the General Secretary, Onuoha Ukeh, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will declare the conference open at the Presidential Villa Banquet Hall on November 12.

The Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence Alhaji Muhammad Saad Abubakar, and Prince Nduka Obaigbena, Chairman of Arise News and ThisDay Newspapers, will serve as Chairmen of the conference.

Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma, will deliver the keynote address on the theme, “Democratic Governance and National Cohesion: The Role of Editors.” The sub-theme, “Electoral Integrity and Trust Deficit: What Nigerians Expect in 2027,” reflects the Guild’s focus on strengthening democratic values and rebuilding public trust ahead of the next general elections.

The NGE described the annual editors’ conference as a vital platform for promoting national dialogue, media responsibility, and good governance.

The opening day will also feature papers by eminent lawyer and Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Prof. Awa Kalu, who will speak on “Election Disputes and Judicial Integrity: Navigating the Thin Line Between Law and Politics,” and Prof. Sheriff Ghali Ibrahim, Head of Political Science and International Relations at the University of Abuja, who will discuss “State of the Nation: Imperative of Economic and Political Reforms in a Challenged Nation.”

On the second day, November 13, former Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Lucky Irabor (rtd.), will deliver a paper titled “Media, Terrorism, and National Security: Addressing the Complexities.” He will be followed by Prof. Abiodun Adeniyi, Dean of the School of Postgraduate Studies at Baze University, who will speak on “The Evolving Face of Journalism: Battling Misinformation, AI Disruption, and the Credibility Gap.”

The conference will also feature an Executive Session, where editors will interact directly with government officials, political leaders, and members of the business community to discuss pressing national issues.

The NGE reaffirmed that the annual event remains a credible forum for media professionals to deliberate on matters affecting national development, cohesion, and the future of journalism in Nigeria. (The Sun)
