Imo govt embarks on construction of digital bus terminal

Ongoing construction of the digital bus terminals in Imo State

Imo State Government has commenced the construction of a modern bus terminal at three different locations of Onitsha/Owerri, Egbu, and Aba/Owerri roads to ease traffic congestions and eliminate touting which has posed a serious problem to transportation in the state.

The project going on simultaneously, according to the State Commissioner for Science, Technology and Innovation, Honourable Ikenna Elezianya, is digitalised to also curb kidnapping activities.

“There are three modern bus terminals that we are constructing under this ministry, there is one at Naze. The one at Naze we call it Heartland terminal, the one at Onitsha Road, we call it Assumpta terminal and the one at Egbu road, we call it Digital terminal.

“Because we have a digital base at Egbu road. These are the three terminals and they have been chosen to be the centres for all transportation in Imo State. We are doing everything about transportation and for transport companies; by the time we’re done the problems of kidnapping, armed robbery, one chance will stop in Imo State, because you would be able to dictate which bus is moving from which point and where they are going,” Elezianya explained.

Elezianya, who also spoke on the ongoing project of a steady power supply in the State while chatting with journalists in Owerri, assured that residents will witness its commissioning by December.

The former House of Representatives lawmaker for Owerri zone disclosed that the State Government has already commenced the test running of the power project.

“This will shock the entire nation, what his Excellency is doing in Imo can’t be compared to the one celebrated in one State, this is a project that will ensure an uninterrupted power supply in the State, this is one of the proceeds of his travels to Abuja, the presidency has already given its approval,” Elezianya said.
