The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has announced the full restoration of its enrolment portal.
NHIA said that the portal had experienced a temporary disruption caused by a financial process issue that affected the verification of National Identification Numbers (NIN) through the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) interface.
Mr Emmanuel Ononokpono, Acting Director of Media and Public Relations, said this in a statement made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), on Thursday in Abuja.
According to him, the portal is now fully operational, and prospective enrollees can proceed with their registration without difficulty.
He explained that while the delay affected new enrolments, other NHIA digital services continued to function seamlessly.
“These include change of healthcare facilities, change of Health Maintenance Organisations (HMOs), renewal of insurance premiums for the Group, Individual and Family Social Health Insurance Programme (GIFSHIP), as well as verification of enrollee names in the current register,” he said.
He said that accurate and reliable enrolment was central to the effective implementation of health insurance in Nigeria, adding that the NHIA remains committed to maintaining the integrity of its systems.
“We sincerely regret the inconvenience and stress the temporary disruption may have caused. The NHIA is working diligently to strengthen its systems and processes to avoid a recurrence,” he said.
He reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring that all Nigerians have access to affordable and quality healthcare through robust digital systems that support transparency, accountability, and efficiency.
NAN reports that NHIA, relies on NIMC primarily for verification of enrollees’ NINs during registration and enrolment into health insurance programmes. (NAN)
