New Awujale: We'll not allow intruders to take our heritage — Ijebu group in diaspora

The Awujales Palace in Ijebuland

A socio-cultural organisation, the Ijebu People’s Vanguard Assembly in Canada, headed by Omooba Joseph Adesanwo, has advised indigenes of Ijebu-Ode at home to be steadfast in selecting the Awujale of Ijebuland and not allow any intruders from nearby communities to take their rights.

Omooba Adesanwo gave the advice in a statement he personally signed on behalf of the organisation, a copy which was made available on Sunday.

He commended the head of the ruling house, Chief Adedokun Ajidagba, for standing with the truth by not allowing the money bags to buy their heritage, just as he urged the sons and daughters of Ijebu-Ode to support the recognised Fusengbuwa family that followed the rules and regulations of the installation of Awujale.

The statement further said that some strangers are planning to install the person who is not a member of the ruling house as the new Awujale, saying the intruders have been moving round even before the demise of the Oba Kayode Adetona.

He warned the bona fide members of the Fusengbuwa royal family not to allow strangers to overturn the laid down rules and regulations of the family, saying posterity will not forgive them if they allow such a thing to happen.

The Ijebu people are not cowards and “we will not give intruders any chance to truncate the well-organised arrangement of the ruling house headed by Otunba Ajidagba, and we are assuring Ajidagba that we will support him with all our God’s endowment,” the group said. (Nigerian Tribune)
