Police arrest three, seize N400,000 in Jigawa drug raid

The Jigawa State Police Command has smashed a drug ring, nabbed three suspects and seized over 13,000 illicit pills plus N400,000 in suspected proceeds, in a bold crackdown across Sara, Bamaina, and Sundimina towns in the state.

This was detailed in a statement issued Monday in Dutse, the Jigawa capital, by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Shi’isu Adam, who hailed the coordinated raids as a win against community threats across the state.

The operations stemmed from solid intelligence targeting drug hotspots in the three areas, SP Adam explained in the statement.

The operatives from Sara, Bamaina, and Sundimina Divisions teamed up for the raids, leading to the arrests and a massive haul of banned substances.

According to him, the police recovered exactly 13,622 pieces of assorted illicit drugs, including Exol, Tramadol, D5 Tablets, Rubber Solution, Diazepam, and five blocks of dried leaves suspected to be cannabis.

Also nabbed, according to the Jigawa police spokesperson, was N441,975 in cash, believed to be dirty money from drug sales.

“The suspects – Yusuf Garba (aka Bamis), 30, from Sara Kudu Quarters; Muhammad Rufa’i, 40, from Kangire village; and Jibrin Manga, 30, from Nasaru town in Bauchi’s Ningi LGA – were caught red-handed with the exhibits,” Adam stated.

He noted that preliminary probes show the trio had been deep in the illicit trade for years, endangering youths and public safety.

In a separate bust on October 23 at around 5:03 PM, Hadejia “B” Division cops intercepted one; Idris Muhammed, 35, from Babbar Ruga in Malam Madori LGA, along Turabu-Hadejia Road.

He was hauling three cows suspected stolen from Kukareta in Yobe State’s Matti LGA, the statement revealed.

Muhammed confessed the theft was by one Kaura Dillali, now on the run, while he faces court charges.

On the same day at 11:12 AM, Hadejia “A” Division’s surveillance team cornered Bale, a wanted stolen property receiver, who ditched his unregistered Jincheng motorcycle (Chassis No. LJCPAGALH06SC06496, Engine No. LH0606496) and bolted.

The bike is now in custody as the hunt for Bale intensified.

However, the PPRO quoted the Jigawa Police Commissioner, CP Muhammad Dahiru, as praising the DPOs and teams for their collaborative work, vowing to crush drug abuse and trafficking in the state.

He urged community leaders, parents, and residents to provide the police with tips to keep the momentum, with all the suspects arraigned in court after a probe. (PUNCH)
