The Sokoto State Police Command has arrested four suspects, including a young woman, for the gruesome murder of a man allegedly killed by his lover and her accomplices in Gidan Kacha village, Gada Local Government Area of the state.

Police investigations revealed that the victim, Ali Salisu of Darnawa village, was lured to his death by his girlfriend, Rukayya Amadu, who allegedly conspired with another lover, Hamisu Ibrahim, to rob and murder him.

According to a statement issued on Saturday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ahmad Rufai, the incident occurred on October 4, 2025, after Rukayya invited the unsuspecting victim to a secluded area in the Dabagi bush under the guise of a private meeting.

“Unknown to him, Rukayya had arranged with Hamisu to set a deadly trap,” DSP Rufai stated. “When the victim arrived, Hamisu ambushed him, tied a rope around his neck, and strangled him to death before fleeing with his red Kasea motorcycle.”

The police spokesperson added that further investigation led to the arrest of two other suspects, Lawali Abdullahi and Ibrahim Abdullahi, who received and attempted to sell the stolen motorcycle in Sokoto.

“All four suspects have been arrested and are in custody,” Rufai confirmed. “They will soon be charged in court for criminal conspiracy, culpable homicide, armed robbery, and receiving stolen property.”

The Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Musa, while commending the investigating officers for their swift and thorough work, described the incident as “a painful reminder of how deceit and jealousy can destroy lives.”

“This case is both tragic and instructive,” CP Musa said. “It shows how misplaced trust can end in disaster. We urge the public to exercise caution in personal relationships and to avoid secluded areas, especially at night.”

He also warned traders and buyers against purchasing valuables such as motorcycles and vehicles without proper verification of ownership.

“Receiving stolen property is a serious offence under the law,” the CP cautioned. “Ignorance will not shield anyone from prosecution.”

The police command assured residents of its commitment to maintaining peace and security across the state, urging members of the public to promptly report suspicious activities to the nearest police station.

“Our mission is to protect lives and property,” CP Musa added. “With the continued cooperation of the public, Sokoto will remain safe and peaceful for all.”

In a similar case, PUNCH Online reports on July 28, 20205 that the Ondo State Police Command confirmed the arrest of one Augustina Mowari, who allegedly killed her boyfriend, Michael Ikuedowoni, in the state. The suspect allegedly stabbed the deceased to death following an argument that ensued between them over the issue of infidelity. (Saturday PUNCH)
