The Police Command in Ebonyi on Wednesday said it had apprehended two suspected cultists and recovered a locally made pistol and ammunition.
SP Joshua Ukandu, Spokesman of the command, said this in a statement issued to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abakaliki.
He said that the suspects were arrested on Tuesday at Amanekwula Village, Ezza-South Local Government area of the state.
Ukandu said that they were arrested by the operatives of the command attached to the Crack Squad.
He identified the suspects as Chigbo Eze and Igbele Osinachi.
He said that they are currently in their custody as the command intensifies investigation to uncover other members of the criminal gang.
The spokesperson assured that they would be charged to court upon the conclusion of the investigation.
“On Oct. 21, acting on credible intelligence, operatives of the command attached to the Crack Squad carried out a successful operation at Amanekwula Village in Ezza South Local Government Area.
“The attack followed reports of sporadic gunshots by the suspected hoodlums.
“On sighting the police team, the hoodlums attempted to flee into a nearby bush. They were however pursued and two suspects were apprehended identified as Chigbo Eze ‘m’ and Igbele Osinachi ‘m’.
“We recovered one locally-made pistol, 14 rounds of 9mm live ammunition from them.
“The suspects are currently in custody as the command intensifies its investigation to uncover other members of the criminal gang.
“They will be charged to court upon the conclusion of the investigation,” Ukandu said.
The state Commissioner of Police, CP Adaku Uche-Anya, reiterated the command’s unwavering commitment to maintaining law and order.
He urged residents to continue to support the police with timely and credible information to ensure a safer Ebonyi. (NAN)
