BUK sets pace with launch of solar tricycles

Bayero University Kano (BUK), in a major stride toward sustainable mobility and environmental conservation, has commissioned ten solar-powered tricycles to enhance transportation across its campuses.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Haruna Musa, described the project as a landmark achievement that reflects the University’s forward-looking approach to innovation and sustainability.

According to him,’ The eco-friendly initiative is part of the University’s commitment to integrating renewable energy solutions into its operations, a move that aligns with the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda and is supported by the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund).

The introduction of solar-powered tricycles positions Bayero University, Kano, as a trailblazer in promoting green innovation and sustainable transportation within Nigeria’s higher education sector.

He said, “Today, we are delighted to receive ten solar-powered tricycles that will operate within the University to ease transportation challenges for our students and staff. We are also expecting an additional ten soon”.

“With the existing eight petrol-powered tricycles already in operation, a total of twenty-eight tricycles will soon be serving our community”.

He then emphasised that the solar tricycles would not only improve mobility for students and staff but also contribute significantly to reducing the University’s carbon footprint. He urged users to handle the vehicles responsibly and regard them as a shared asset for the entire BUK community.

The commissioning event was attended by top management officials, including Deputy Vice Chancellors Professor Aliyu Muazu and Professor Amina Mustapha, the Registrar, Malam Haruna Aliyu, the Bursar, Malam Rabi’u Dauda, and the University Librarian, Dr. Kabiru Dahiru Abbas.(Tribune)
