Hisbah rescues 2 women being trafficked to Somalia

Sheikh Mujahid Aminudeen Abubakar, Deputy Commander General of the Hisbah Board

The Kano State Hisbah Board has rescued two women allegedly being trafficked from Katsina State to Somalia.

The board had also arrested a 43-year-old suspect linked to the attempt.

The Deputy Commander General of the Board, Sheikh Mujahid Aminudeen Abubakar, disclosed this while briefing journalists in Kano.

He said the operation followed credible intelligence received from concerned citizens about a suspected trafficking movement.

According to him, officers from the Hisbah Motor Parks Operations Unit acted swiftly after receiving a tip-off, leading to the interception of the suspect named Abubakar Adodo, at a motor park in Kano.

The victims, identified as 22-year-old Hajara Ismail from Funtua and 33-year-old Bilkisu Haruna from Kofar Marusa, were reportedly on their way to Lagos and are believed to be part of a planned route to Somalia through Benin Republic.

Sheikh Abubakar said the prompt intervention of Hisbah officials thwarted the illegal journey and ensured the women’s safety.

He added that both the suspect and the victims have been handed over to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) for further investigation and prosecution. (Daily Trust)
