A security siege has descended on the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), with chaos being reported in parts of the Nigerian capital as security agents seek to thwart the #FreeNnamdiKanu Protest being organised by founder and former presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoleye Sowore.

According to updates provided on a WhatsApp platform by Journalist Ugo Okoro: “Maitama to Transcorp is under police teargas as we speak. Be cautious. The riot is out. Abuja stand still for Kanu release by Sowore gallantry. He's a man of valor. A resilient soldier of freedoms not a mouthy coward.”

“So police are everywhere shooting teargas.

“Stay out of the streets of Abuja.”

“Federal Secretariat is totally blocked

“Heavy security as they are sending people back

“With heavy tear gas

“No access to Three Arms Zone bcoz of the protest.”

“There is strong military and police check point on Kubwa express, this should be as a result of the planned protest. Traffic tie wrapper.

“I don't know of other places so seek information before you go out o.

“This is for your safety”.

News Express had early this morning reported that there is tension in Abuja over the planned protest for the release of leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

Sowore has been busy mobilising Nigerians, especially traders, to come out in their numbers to protest against the continued detention of Kanu in the custody of the Department of State Service (DSS).

However, the Nigeria Police Force has warned intending protesters agitating for the release of Kanu against any form of protest around the Aso Rock Villa and its environs.
