The Anambra State Police Command, under the leadership of Commissioner of Police (CP) Ikioye Orutgu, on Sunday, hailed residents of the state for their growing preference for dialogue and peaceful engagement in addressing issues, rather than resorting to unpatriotic actions such as protests, illegal sit-at-home orders, or other forms of civil disturbance that threaten public peace.

The Command made the disclosure in a statement made available to journalists in Awka on Sunday, October 19, 2025, by the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Tochukwu Ikenga.

According to the statement, the assessment was based on official security situational assessment conducted across the state based on credible intelligence reports about a planned protest in some areas.

It said that the Command’s findings revealed that residents have largely chosen peace, unity, and constructive engagement over confrontation or violence.

It observed that the development demonstrates the increasing maturity and civic responsibility of the people, who now understand that sustained peace is the foundation for progress and prosperity.

While commending the people of Anambra State for their growing commitment to peace and development, the Command reaffirmed its readiness to ensure that the existing atmosphere of calm and security is maintained.

It also assured that adequate security measures have been put in place across the state to safeguard lives and property, and to allow law-abiding citizens to go about their lawful activities without fear or hindrance.

Reacting to the assessment, the state Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutgu, reiterated the Command’s commitment to proactive policing and community collaboration.

He emphasized that under his leadership, the Police will continue to work closely with traditional rulers, community leaders, youth associations, and other key stakeholders to sustain peace and address emerging security concerns through dialogue and strategic engagement.

He said: "I urge residents to remain vigilant and continue supporting the Police with credible information that could help in preventing crime and maintaining public safety across the state.

"The Command, under my watch, will continue to adopt proactive measures, strengthen community policing strategies, and collaborate with critical stakeholders to maintain security, law, and order across Anambra State.”

The Police will not relent in its commitment to ensuring that no group or individual destabilizes the peace being enjoyed in the state.

"The Command’s focus remains on protecting lives, promoting harmony, and upholding the rule of law."
