Taraba varsity suspends student associations over indiscipline

The Taraba State University, Jalingo

The management of Taraba State University, Jalingo, has announced the immediate suspension of all student associations, unions, clubs, and societies operating within the institution.

In a circular signed by the Registrar, Dr. Joseph U. Bibinu, on Friday, the university expressed concern over what it described as “a growing wave of indiscipline, defiance, and outright insubordination” by some student groups, noting that such behavior threatens peace, order, and academic integrity on campus.

“The University Management hereby orders the immediate suspension of all student associations, unions, clubs, and societies operating within the University. This suspension takes immediate effect and shall remain in force until further notice,” the circular stated.

The directive also prohibits any student group or individual from convening meetings, organizing events, issuing communications, or conducting any activity under the banner of a student association, whether within or outside the campus.

Management warned that any violation of the order would be treated as gross misconduct and attract severe disciplinary action in line with the university’s regulations.

The statement added that a new framework for responsible student representation would be developed and communicated in due course. (The Guardian)
