Ondo set to emerge as South-west business powerhouse with Port Ondo, 500,000bpd modular refinery — Commissioner

The Ondo State Online Media Professionals Association has pledged its full support for the developmental agenda of the Ondo State Government, particularly its drive to transform the state into a major business and industrial hub through landmark projects such as the Port Ondo and a 500,000 barrels-per-day modular refinery.

During a courtesy visit to the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Hon. Idowu Ajanaku, in Akure, the association’s chairman, Mr. Joseph Olusola, expressed appreciation for the commissioner’s warm reception and commended his efforts in bridging the gap between the government and the online media community. He described Ajanaku as “one of us,” noting that his appointment has strengthened collaboration between the ministry and the online media sector.

Olusola reaffirmed the group’s readiness to amplify the state government’s achievements, especially in critical economic sectors. He emphasised the need to project the opportunities emerging from the forthcoming Port Ondo project and the proposed modular refinery, both of which will position the Sunshine State as a leading investment destination in Nigeria. He also called for continued partnership with the ministry in organising capacity-building programmes to curb fake news and enhance responsible digital reporting.

In his response, Hon. Idowu Ajanaku lauded the association’s professionalism and assured them of sustained collaboration in promoting the activities of Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa’s administration. He reiterated that the government is focused on economic diversification, industrialisation, and sustainable development through infrastructural expansion and strategic investment partnerships.

According to Ajanaku, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is expected to perform the groundbreaking of Port Ondo next year, a multi-billion-naira deep seaport project designed to open Ondo to global trade, maritime commerce, and logistics operations. He added that a 500,000-barrels-per-day modular refinery in the Southern Senatorial District is also in the pipeline, alongside a new cement factory at Okeluse, which collectively signal the dawn of an economic revolution in the state.

The commissioner further highlighted ongoing efforts to rejuvenate the tourism and cultural sectors, stating that the Aiyedatiwa-led administration remains calm, deliberate, and people-centered in its approach to governance, all aimed at building a prosperous, industrialised, and investor-friendly Ondo State.
