Hoodlums suspected to be bike snatchers have reportedly stabbed a cyclist, identified as Ayuba Dangana, to death in an ambush near Damakusa village in Dafa ward of Kwali Area Council of the FCT.
A resident of Damakusa, Markus Yohana, said the incident happened on Monday, around 6:12 pm in the area.
He said the deceased, who had left Kwali market, was on his way back to Damakusa village when the hoodlums laid an ambush for him.
He explained that the victim was riding his bike back to the village when the hoodlums targeted him in a forest, which he said was just a short distance to Damakusa village, and attacked him with a knife.
“The man actually went and purchased the new bike in Gwagwalada on that Monday, before later stopping over in Kwali market to buy some items. And while on his way going back to Damakusa village, he was attacked by hoodlums and his bike was taken away,” he said.
According to Yohana, the deceased was stabbed in the neck and left in a pool of his blood by the roadside.
He said the victim was immediately rushed to the hospital in Kwali, but gave up before arriving.
Yohana said the remains of the deceased were evacuated and buried on Tuesday in the community.
“Though, some vigilantes later came along with some policemen at the scene before the man’s corpse was taken to the hospital, he had already given up before arriving,” he said.
A police source at the Kwali division, who preferred anonymity, confirmed the incident, saying the matter is being investigated. (Daily Trust)
