Two Nigerians, whose identities were undisclosed, have been arrested by the Libyan authorities for possession of substances suspected to be hard drugs.
PUNCH Metro gathered from an X post by a migrant monitor page, Migrant Rescue Watch, on Sunday, that the substances were identified as hashish and hallucinogenic.
The page disclosed that the drugs were of commercial quantities and ready for distribution when the suspects were arrested.
The report read, ”CID in Zliten arrested two undocumented migrants of Nigerian nationality on charges of drug trafficking. The individuals were found in possession of quantities of hashish and hallucinogenic pills ready for distribution.“
It noted that the two suspects have been handed over to the appropriate legal authorities for further investigation and possible prosecution.
The statement said, “Both individuals were referred to the Anti-Narcotics Agency for legal action.”
This is not the first instance where Nigerians have been arrested in Libya for drug peddling.
PUNCH Metro reported on July 10 that Libya’s Counter-Terrorism Forces arrested two Nigerians over alleged involvement in drug trafficking.
This involvement of Nigerians in drug trafficking, many believe, paints Nigeria’s international image in a bad light. (PUNCH)
