FENRAD hails Amnesty International’s report on South East insecurity, as Nwafor participates in global campaign talks

The Foundation for Environmental Rights, Advocacy and Development (FENRAD) has praised a recent report by Amnesty International, which documents the violence and human rights violations in the South East region of Nigeria.

In a statement signed by its Executive Director, Comrade Nelson Nnanna Nwafor, and dated October 7, 2025, FENRAD commends the Amnesty report while declaring its commitment to addressing the root causes of violence in Nigeria. The report, which was published in August 2025, documents “rampant human rights violations and abuses and serious crimes under domestic law against the population in South-East Nigeria since 2021.” It reveals that members of security agencies, secessionist groups, and non-state actors were perpetrators of the violence and human rights abuse witnessed in the region.

However, FENRAD’s Executive Director, Comrade Nwafor, who is also one of the stakeholders scheduled to present on the reports at the launch of the Global Campaign Against Impunity on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, decries the violence and human rights violations in the South East. He maintains that the increasing “lawlessness” in the region should not be condoned.

According to him, “What we are witnessing is a systemic erosion of justice and human dignity.” Speaking ahead of the event, Nwafor reiterates that “FENRAD is fully aligned with Amnesty International’s call for transparency, accountability, and urgent reform to safeguard the lives and rights of citizens in the region.”

FENRAD has also called on the media, public, and development partners to attend the launch and submit their views on the report.
