Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETfund) Board of Trustees (BoT) has said 18 tertiary institutions in Nigeria have been selected to benefit from its sustainable mini grid energy solutions.
The board added that it had also approved the mini grid power project under the 2025 intervention cycle with N70 billion allocation across the institutions.
BoT member, Engr Nurudeen Adeyemi, said this in Ilorin, Kwara state at a town hall meeting for stakeholders of beneficiary institutions and surrounding communities in North-central.
Engr Adeyemi added that the aim is to “address one of the most persistent challenges facing our tertiary institutions and high cost of electricity.
According to him, this bold step will ensure a stable, cost effective, and renewable electricity supply to campuses, thereby reducing operational costs and enhancing research and learning.
He noted that in the North-central zone, several projects were extended by the fund under the direction of the board of trustees.
“Under the special high impact projects, institutions that benefited from the intervention include the University of llorin, University of Jos, Benue State University, Federal Polytechnic, Ny’Ak Shendam, Plateau State, College of Agriculture Science and technology, Nasarawa State, and Federal Polytechnic Bida, Niger State.
“Similarly, Federal College of Education, Odugbo, Benue State, Kwara State College of Education, and Federal College of Education Okene, Kogi state, he submitted.
He TETFund under the present administration, will continue to prioritise the transformation of Nigeria’s tertiary institutions to meet global standards.
Engineer Adeyemi explained that since President Bola Tinubu inaugurated the new Board, TETFund has been driving reforms under the Renewed Hope agenda.
He highlighted achievements in staff training, “where thousands of lecturers have been sponsored for PhDs and Master’s degrees locally and abroad, as well as support for teaching practice and conferences”.
On infrastructure, he listed lecture theatres, laboratories, libraries, ICT facilities, and hostels among others as some of the projects provided by the body which “have transformed the learning environment across campuses.
Adeyemi said the town hall meeting is more than a gathering but a partnership for progress to promote accountability, transparency, and stronger partnerships with communities and institutions.
“It also reflects our deep conviction that sustainable solutions must be built through dialogue, trust, and collective action”, he said. (DAILY TRUST)
