President Bola Tinubu arrived at Owerri on Tuesday for a one-day visit, during which he inaugurated the Assumpta Flyover and other landmark projects executed by Gov. Hope Uzodinma’s administration.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the presidential aircraft touched down at the Sam Mbakwe International Cargo Airport, Owerri at exactly 12:52 p.m.
Other key projects lined up for the president’s inauguration included the reconstructed 60-kilometre dual carriage Owerri-Mbaise-Umuahia Federal Road and the newly built 6,000-capacity Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu International Conference Centre, Owerri.
His itinerary also included the public presentation of Uzodimma’s fourth book, entitled “A Decade of Impactful Progressive Governance in Nigeria”.
The book documents Nigeria’s democratic journey and governance achievements under the All Progressives Congress over the past 10 years.
NAN also reports that the Imo Government had in a statement by the Commissioner for Trade, Commerce and Investment, Mr. Rex Anunobi, ordered the closure of eight markets in the state capital.
Anunobi said that the measure became necessary to enable the people to come out en masse to receive the president.
The statement read in part: “The State Government has directed that the leadership of the affected markets should ensure that business activities do not take place in these markets and these markets remains closed on Tuesday 30th September, 2025.
“Rather, the government is requesting that all traders should come out en-masse to receive the president.” (NAN)
