Police arrest four suspects for armed robbery, kidnapping in Anambra

The Anambra State Police Command has arrested four suspects for armed robbery and kidnapping, and recovered one pump action gun and one black Toyota Camry car with registration number: SMK 835 FC during their arrest.

In a press statement released on Tuesday, the spokesman for the Anambra State police, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said operatives of the police command attached to the Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu, acting on credible intelligence, arrested the suspects on September 24.

Ikenga said the suspects, all males between the ages of 22 and 40, identified as Uchenna Aniegboka, Sunday Nwakalor, Chukwuebuka Aniegbunam, and Onyebuchi Udemba, were arrested in Aguleri, Anambra East LGA of the state.

The statement read In part, “Operatives of the Anambra State Police Command attached to the Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu, in the early hours of September 24, 2025, acting on credible intelligence, stormed Aguleri and arrested four suspected members of a criminal gang allegedly involved in armed robbery and kidnapping in the area.

“The suspects, all males between the ages of 22 and 40 years, include: Uchenna Aniegboka, Sunday Nwakalor, Chukwuebuka Aniegbunam and Onyebuchi Udemba.

“During the Operations, one pump-action gun and one black Toyota Camry car with registration. No. SMK 835 FC were recovered.

“To this end, while the suspects are still undergoing interrogation, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, reaffirms the Command’s commitment to ensuring that criminal elements have no hiding place in the State.

“He further urged members of the public to continue to provide timely information to the Police to aid in the fight against crime.”

According to him, the case shall be charged to court on the conclusion of the investigations.

PUNCH Online had reported that on September 2, 2025, the Anambra State Police Command arrested four suspects for armed robbery and belonging to a kidnapping syndicate, terrorising members of the public along the Amansea and Awka environs.

During the arrest, it was gathered that the police also recovered two pump-action guns and nine live cartridges.

The spokesman for the command, Tochukwu Ikenga, in a statement, added that operatives attached to the Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu, arrested the suspects.

Ikenga said the suspects had voluntarily confessed to the crime and narrated how they conspired among themselves, on August 12, 2025, at about 7 pm, and kidnapped two victims in Amansea, Awka, and kept them for two days in a bush at Ugwuoba, Enugu State, collected ransom before they were released.

According to him, their arrest was based on credible intelligence on a case of kidnapping where a ransom of N5m was paid before the victims were released. (The PUNCH)
