A gruesome discovery was made on Monday morning in the Tafawa Belewa community of Jos North Local Government Area, Plateau State, where a man’s corpse was found near the gate of Township Primary School in the locality.

According to eyewitness Johnson Nyam, the incident likely occurred overnight, but the exact circumstances surrounding the man’s death are still unknown.

“I was passing through the street of Tafawa Balewa community when I saw police vehicles together with a lot of people gathered at the Township Primary School gate.

“When I approached the place, I saw a man lying down, and some people were saying that it had happened in the night. However, nobody knows exactly what happened to the man, but he is not alive,” Nyam told PUNCH Metro in Jos on Monday.

Nyam also noted that there were suspected poisonous substances coming from the man’s mouth and nose, which raises further questions about the cause of death.

The eyewitness called on authorities to conduct a thorough investigation to determine the cause of death and shed more light on the circumstances surrounding this tragic incident.

“Members close to the scene should further their investigation for proper documentation,” Nyam emphasized.

When our correspondent visited the scene of the incident at the Tafawa Balewa community around 11 am, some residents were seen discussing the death of the young man in clusters, but the victim’s corpse was said to have been evacuated by security operatives.

The Plateau State Police Command has yet to release an official statement on this incident.

Contacted, the spokesman for the Plateau state Police Command, Alabo Alfred, could not be reached as his phone indicated that it was switched off.

The incident highlights the need for increased security measures in the community to prevent such tragedies from occurring in the future.

Plateau State has experienced a surge in violent attacks and killings in recent times, with gunmen attacking various communities, resulting in significant loss of life.

As the investigation unfolds, residents of the Tafawa Balewa community are left to grapple with the shock and uncertainty surrounding this tragic event. (The PUNCH)
