Two suspected terrorists arrested in Bayelsa

CP Alonyenu Francis Idu, Bayelsa State Commissioner of Police

The Commissioner of Police, Alonyenu Francis Idu, who disclosed this while parading the two suspects, stated that the ammunition was smuggled into Bayelsa.

According to him, good citizens tipped off the police about the suspicious movement of the suspects, and they were arrested.

Idu pointed out that the ammunition was not the normal ammunition, which calls for rigorous investigations.

The Police boss appealed to residents of the state to be vigilant and continue to cooperate with the Police to curb crime and criminality in the state.

“We are also parading the arms and ammunition that got into Bayelsa. Citizens also alerted us because of the suspicion of those characters within the domain. The ammunition is not normal ammunition. If you are not in the military, you won’t understand the velocity of that ammunition.

“Somebody ran away from the heat of battle in the North West, and he wanted to associate himself within this environment, and luckily, watchful Bayelsans, especially Yenagoa citizens, who trusted that we would respond to the distress call, informed us, and the suspect was taken into custody after a search was conducted on him.”

The Police also announced the arrest of six suspects in connection with the alleged involvement in the August killing of a Police Constable, Oboh Goodluck, by suspected cultists along the OMPADEC area of Amarata community in Yenagoa, the State capital.

According to CP Idu, the key suspect, who is identified to have been involved in multiple cases of murder and wanted by the Police, will soon be apprehended.

Idu, who made this known during the Service of Songs and the Lying-in-State for the deceased, said the police will ensure that key suspects and those involved in the killing are brought to book.

He warned that those involved in acts of violent attacks against the Police would face the full wrath of the law.

“The deceased Constable acted within the law to confront and defend the people from armed hoodlums. Goodluck Oboh gave his life to save the Bayelsa citizenry. If he had succeeded, he would have beaten his chest that he was a peacekeeper,” Idu added.

Meanwhile, Idu has attributed the success recorded in the quick arrest of George Idumangi, the suspected killer of the 42-year-old Estate Agent, Richard Ekpebu, in the state, to the quick support of information by the people of the state and sister security agencies in Lagos.

He stated that the Intelligence gathering and exchange of intelligence between the Police in Bayelsa and Lagos and other sister agencies, such as the Nigerian Immigration Service, led to the arrest of the suspect in Festac Town, Lagos, while trying to procure an International Passport to flee the country.

“The citizens of the state offered buoyant support to all our inquiries and efforts until he was arrested. If nothing is done, society will have us in contempt. Concerned by the public outcry, we moved on a full throttle through Bayelsa to Rivers to Delta and finally to Lagos to get him apprehended (The Sun)
