A Federal High Court in Abuja has refused a new application by Senator Buruji Kashamu seeking to stop the Department of State Services (DSS) and the police from arresting him in order to effect his extradition to the United States of America.
Justice Okon Abang, who declined the application, however acceded to Senator Kashamu’s request to hear the fundamental right application during vacation.
The judge ruled on Tuesday in Nigeria’s capital that the security agencies deserved to be served notice to state why the restraining injunction should not be granted.
Kashamu’s counsel, Mr Godswill Mrakpor, had asked the court to restrain the security agencies from arresting his client and grant an urgent hearing to his application during vacation.
He had also informed the court that the security agencies were acting based on a “politically motivated petition”, which he claimed was authored by Representative Oladikupo Adebutu from Ogun State.
Further hearing has been fixed for September 8. (Channels TV)
