Police mount guard of honour for late IGP Arase
Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebhole, has disclosed that the state government would immortalize former Inspector-General of Police, Solomon Arase.
Daily Trust reports that Arase, an indigene of Edo State, died at the age of 69, on August 31, 2025, at Cedercrest Hospital, Abuja, after a brief illness.
The corpse of the former IGP Arase has been flown to Benin, Edo State capital, on Saturday, ahead of his funeral rites.
Receiving the remains at the Benin Airport, Edo State, on Saturday, Governor Okpebholo described the deceased as one of the finest police officers.
Okpebholo, represented by the his Chief of Staff, Gani Audu, said, “Arase, to us, is one of the finest police officers and lawyers we have in Edo state, and losing him at this time that the Nigeria Police Force and the country in general need him is not good for us.
“As a State Government, we will work with the family to see how we can immortalize him. He was a great son of Edo State.
“It is very painful to government and people of Edo state but we are consoled with the good life he lived.” He mourned.
The governor further described Arase as a team player and a man that is always willing to help.
“It is painful that we lost somebody who always listens to every complaint and tries as much as possible to solve them.”
He, however, prayed to God to give the bereaved family the fortitude to bear the loss, assuring that government will do all that it can to support them.
Late Arase was recruited into the Nigeria Police Force on December 1, 1981. He rose to become Inspector-General of Police in April 2015, during the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan.
He was appointed Chairman of the Police Service Commission in January 2023 by late President Muhammadu Buhari. (Weekend Trust)
