Eight killed, many injured as illegal mining site collapses in Zamfara

At least eight persons were killed following the collapse of an illegal mining site in Jabaka, Maru Local Government Area of the state.

Zagazola gathered that the incident occurred on Sept. 25 at about 8:00 a.m.

Sources said the report was received from the Commander of the Anti-Illegal Mining Unit, who explained that several miners were trapped when the mining pit collapsed.

“Teams of the Anti-Illegal Mining Unit, led by the Commander, visited the scene and recovered eight corpses as well as many injured victims.

“Rescue operations are still ongoing to recover the remaining victims, dead or alive,” said the sources

The sources added that the corpses and injured victims had been evacuated to General Hospital, Maru, for autopsy and medical treatment. (Zagazola)
