The Federal Road Safety Corps, Rivers State Sector Command, has convicted 36 traffic offenders for various road traffic violations.
The conviction was made possible through a mobile court exercise conducted on Thursday, September 25, 2025.
According to the State Public Education Officer, Amarachi C-Ekwere, the exercise was part of the Corps’ continuous effort to enforce traffic regulations and enhance road safety in the state.
The mobile court, presided over by His Worship Lilian M. Awuse, ESQ, imposed fines and mandatory safety education on the offenders.
C-Ekwere said that out of the 36 offenders, 11 persons who attempted to corrupt operatives on duty were fined N10,000 each, and another nine offenders found guilty of overloading were also fined N10,000 each.
She further explained that the court also imposed fines totaling N80,000 for driver’s license violations, and 16 other offenders were penalised differently for infractions bordering on seat belt violations, faulty lights and caution signs, worn-out tyres, cracked windshields, passenger manifest violations, and failure to install speed limiters.
However, one of the defendants was cautioned and discharged after due sensitisation by the court.
Speaking after the sitting, the Sector Commander, Corps Commander Inyang Umoh, noted that the mobile court exercise serves as a strong reminder that traffic laws must be respected, and violators will be held accountable.
He further reiterated the Corps’ commitment towards ensuring safer roads and reducing crashes caused by human error. (The Guardian)
