Ebonyi First Lady builds, donates houses to widows in Ohaozara, Afikpo LGAs

Ebonyi state First Lady, Mrs. Mary-Maudline Uzoamaka Nwifuru, has commissioned three-bedroom bungalows she built and donated to widows in Ohaozara and Afikpo Local government Areas of the state.

This Philantropic gestures was extended to the two-Six indigent widows across the 13 Local government Areas of the state aimed at reducing shelter problem for them.

The houses were built through her pet project, "Better Health for rural women, children, and lnternally internally Displaced persons foundation"(BERWO).

Speaking While Commissioning the houses in Ohaozara and Afikpo Local Government Areas on Thursday, Mrs. Nwifuru stated that the project was initiated to bring comfort to indigent mothers in the Society.

“The good thing about this project is that it’s targeted at our indigent mothers of the State. “I’m sure that they are happy. I’m so happy that the Commissioner for Housing did a great job. This is the 24th buildings we are commissioning, and it has been so amazing.”

She added, “Today is a testimony for us. I pray that this house shall be productive. The gift of God adds no sorrow, and as such, this house shall add no sorrow in Jesus’ name, Amen.”

The tate Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development, Engr. Francis Ori, noted that the project consists of 26 units of three-bedroom bungalows distributed across all local government areas.

“We are here to commission the BERWO foundation project,” Engr. Ori stated. “When you go down and listen to the true stories of these beneficiaries, you will know that the benefits of these buildings can never be overemphasized because it has restored hope and dignity to humanity.”

He urged the beneficiaries to maintain the buildings to ensure the long-term success of the initiative.

The Chairman of Ohaozara and Afikpo LGAs,Hon. Ajah Chinonso, and Enr. Timothy Nwachi, expressed their gratitude for the project, pledging political loyalty to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

“To be honest with you, I’m happy for this wonderful work in our LGA. We are APC, and we will ensure that no vote will be missing during the election,” he said. He added that the beneficiaries were nominated by local stakeholders.

The beneficiaries, including Mrs. Maria Maduabuchi and Mrs. Benedeth Oko, thanked the First Lady for her “magnificent gesture” and offered prayers for the first family.

The event was attended by stakeholders from the two LGAs, including the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Grace Umezurike and others.
