Speeding car crushes Police Sergeant on stop-and-search duty in Abuja




A police sergeant, Simon Akpor, has died after being knocked down by a vehicle while on duty at Tungan Maje, Abuja.

The Incident occurred at about 1:40 p.m. on Wednesday near a Chinese company in Tungan Maje, where the officer was carrying out lawful stop-and-search duties.

Eyewitnesses told Zagazola that the sergeant was hit by a Toyota vehicle with registration number GWA 539 CZ, driven by one Onuoha Ikenna of Lugbe.

The victim was rushed to the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital, Gwagwalada, where he was confirmed dead by a doctor on duty.

His remains have since been deposited at the hospital mortuary.

The driver of the vehicle is currently in custody and undergoing interrogation.

Authorities have also conducted an on-the-spot assessment and documented the accident scene. (Zagazola, excluding headline)
