Re-elected NCF President, Dr Uyi Akpata
Dr. Uyi Akpata has been re-elected President of the Nigeria Cricket Federation (NCF) at the 2025 Annual General Meeting (AGM) and Board election in Abuja on Saturday, September 20, 2025.
The highlight of the Zonal elections was the North-Central Zone where Oludare Aimola defeated Engr. Emeka Onyeama, a former past President of NCF, for the third time consecutively.
The election which was adjudged by Cricket stakeholders in Nigeria as free, fair and transparent, also saw the election of other Board members representing the six Nigerian geo-political zones as well as other stakeholders representing government institutions and other interests.
Members of the 13-man Board elected on Saturday are as follows:
Uyi Akpata elected President unopposed with 47 votes. Also elected unopposed with 47 votes was Wale Obalola as Vice President. Winners from the six geo-political zones were; South East - Chika Okoro, South West - Tayo Atoloye, North West - Ladan Usman, South South - Femi John, North Central - Dare Aimola, North East - Zainab Ishaku Adamu. Others are; Technical Rep - Olumide Akintokun, Players' Rep - Endurance Ofem, NAWIS - Prof. Mariam Suleiman, Sponsor's Rep - Chuma Anosike, Military/Paramilitary - Major Monica Wuballa.
In a message to stake holders and Cricket fans in Nigeria, Dr. Uyi Akpata extended his heartfelt appreciation to all who contributed to the success of the 2025 NCF elections.
Other reelected members of the NCF new board are Mr. Wake Obalola, Mr. Oludare Aimola, Mr. Chika Okoro and Ladan Usman.
Nigeria Cricket has seen a rapid development of the game under the last board of the NCF led by Uyi Akpata. In particular, there has been massive development and progress of Female Cricket which saw the Nigeria female Cricket team out perform African /World class Female Cricket top ranked teams in tournaments.
Dr. Uyi Akpata-led Board with evidence at the All Africa Games held in Ghana in 2024 where they won bronze medal ahead of Namibia and Uganda, to become the only team sport to win a medal for Nigeria.
Few months later, the National Under-19 team against all odds defeated Zimbabwe to qualify for the ICC Women's Under-19 World Cup. At the World Cup Proper, Nigeria took it one step further to defeat an ICC Full Member Nation, New Zealand to finish overall 6th Position in the World.
For this and other reasons, Dr. Uyi Akpata was among other awards recognized by The Seraphine Outreach “Save the Girl Child” Initiative who honoured him with the Seraphine Man of the Year Award for his unwavering support, vision, and commitment to empowering the girl child while championing gender equity, youth development, and community impact.
