Federal Government College, Okposi-Okwu, in Ebonyi State, during the weekend, was disturbed as family and community members staged a peaceful protest over the death of an SS2 student, Ebuka Chukwu.

The protesters, carrying placards with inscriptions like “Who killed Ebuka?”, “Evil people are running FGC Okposi,” and “IGP, stop the killing and bring justice,” demanded answers and government intervention.

Mr. Collins Agwu, speaking on behalf of the community, expressed sadness and outrage, citing an autopsy result that indicated Ebuka was killed before being thrown into a stream to cover up.

He questioned why a staff member of the institution allegedly directed Ebuka and other students to confront hoodlums.

“We want justice to prevail, and those behind Ebuka’s death to be unmasked. The school management is playing politics with this incident,” Agwu said.

Chiadikaobi Obasi, a community native, lamented the alleged maltreatment of indigenous students and staff by the school management, warning that the peaceful Okposi Okwu community should not be pushed to the wall.

The Vice Principal, Mr. Ojima O. Emmanuel, expressed shock over the death and assured the protesters that the school would cooperate to uncover the circumstances surrounding Ebuka’s demise.

The Police PPRO, Joshua Ukandu, said that the matter is under investigation, with three persons arrested in connection with the case.

According to sources, the incident occurred on July 27th, when a staff member of the college allegedly sent students, including Ebuka, to confront hoodlums, leading to his death. (Daily Independent)
