The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has arrested four members of a notorious armed robbery syndicate responsible for killing a Disc Jockey identified as Bashir Dauda.
The Command in a statement posted on X on Monday and seen by PUNCH Metro stated that Dauda, otherwise known as DJ Bash, was killed during a robbery attack in the FCT.
According to the statement, the arrest was made in a series of well-coordinated operations carried out between September 3 and September 19.
The suspects were also said to have been arrested both in the FCT and Niger State, while weapons were recovered from them in the process.
“The suspects were arrested at Kagini, FCT, and Madalla, Niger State. They include: Ibrahim Shaibu a.k.a. Baba Godes (M), 28 years, from Zaria, Kaduna State, Yusuf Salihu (M), 40 years, from Kagini, FCT, Awulu Nuhu a.k.a. Zabi (M), 25 years, from Keita LGA, Katsina State, Usman Yerima a.k.a. Dangrugru (M), 28 years, from Jimeta LGA, Adamawa State.
“The operation led to the recovery of two (2) English pistols, Forty-nine (49) rounds of 9mm live ammunition, one (1) gray Toyota Corolla (2012 model), and ten (10) Android phones suspected to have been stolen from victims. During interrogation, the suspects confessed to their involvement in several violent crimes including the armed robbery of Umar Y. Gowa at Hillside Estate, Dawaki, and the attack on Volcano Peak Court Hotel, Gwarinpa, where guests were robbed and Bashir Dauda, popularly known as DJ Bash, was fatally shot,” the statement read in part.
The statement noted that investigations further revealed that the syndicate had been terrorising residents of Gwarinpa and Dawaki, where they carried out violent attacks on unsuspecting members of the public.
It added that this was corroborated by Closed-Circuit Television footage that captured one of their attacks on an innocent resident, further exposing the gang’s ruthless mode of operations.
The command also disclosed that the suspects provided useful information on other gang members currently at large, as efforts were ongoing to track down and apprehend the fleeing members of the syndicate.
“The Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Ajao S. Adewale, psc, mnips, commended the Scorpion Squad and other operatives for their professionalism, courage, and resilience in dismantling the deadly network. He reassured residents of the Command’s unwavering commitment to the protection of lives and property and urged the public to remain vigilant and continue to support the police with credible information,” the statement concluded.
The development comes amid rising concerns over violent crimes in Abuja, with residents of satellite towns such as Gwarinpa, Dawaki, Lugbe, and Kubwa frequently lamenting armed robberies, “one-chance” kidnappings, and cult-related clashes.
PUNCH Metro reported in July that the command arrested three wanted kidnappers and bandits following a coordinated intelligence-led operation.
The suspects are Abdulkadir Abubakar of Mpape, Abuja; 25-year-old Mohammed Tasiu Sani of Rigina, Kaduna State; and 27-year-old Suleiman Jibrin from Sabon-Gayan, Kaduna State. (The PUNCH)
