The Police Command in Enugu State says the country home of the Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG), Frank Mba, in Ezimo community in Udenu Local Government Area was never attacked.
The command also said that no attempt was made to kidnap his parents or relatives, as falsely alleged in a viral social media post.
This is contained in a statement issued to newsmen by the Command’s Spokesman, SP Daniel Ndukwe, on Sunday in Enugu.
Ndukwe said that contrary to the false report, on Thursday at about 8p.m., police operatives on routine patrol within the Ezimo community promptly responded to a distress call and repelled an armed robbery attack.
According to him, sadly, a police officer who sustained gunshot injuries during the ensuing shootout later died in the hospital, where he was confirmed dead by the attending doctor.
“Meanwhile, one male suspect has been detained and is assisting the police in the ongoing discreet investigation and manhunt for the fleeing suspects.
“The state’s Commissioner of Police, Mr Mamman Giwa, has urged operatives to sustain the lead already established towards apprehending the fleeing suspects.
“He reiterates the unwavering commitment of the command to combating isolated cases of violent crimes in Enugu State,” he said. (NAN)
