The Police Command in Enugu State has detained four armed robbery suspects and recovered three firearms and other incriminating exhibits during three separate operations.
The Command’s Spokesman, SP Daniel Ndukwe, said this in a statement on Friday in Enugu.
Ndukwe said that the police had sustained its proactive fight against crime with series of operational breakthroughs.
He said that on Sept.17, at about 11:40p.m., operatives attached to Ikirike Division and Anti-Cultism Squad, while on patrol along Agbani Road, responded to a distress call that led to the detention of the male suspect.
He said, “The suspect was detained for attempting to rob a male victim of a smart wristwatch.
“A locally-fabricated pistol, resembling a Beretta but without a magazine or ammunition, was recovered from him.”
Ndukwe said that similarly, at about 3:15p.m. the same date, operatives of 9th Mile Division, acting on information about an ongoing armed robbery along Uzo-Nwa Money, Ngwo, in Udi Local Government Area, moved swiftly to the scene.
According to him, on sighting the police, the hoodlums fled, but with the support of vigilant citizens, two male suspects, aged 36, and 23, were detained, while one other escaped.
He said, “A locally-fabricated pistol, a Beretta-like without a magazine or ammunition, and a small bag of rice were recovered from the suspects.
“Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects, together with their fleeing accomplice, have boarded the victim’s tricycle from New Market, Enugu, along with the bag of rice, to the scene where they robbed him.”
The spokesman further said that earlier, on Sept. 15, at about 4:10a.m., police operatives attached to Ogui Division, in synergy with law-abiding citizens, detained another 29 years old suspect.
He said ’hat preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect scaled the fence of a residential compound in Ogui-Nike, Enugu, and attempted to rob a male victim of his phone.
“He was subdued after the victim raised the alarm, and a locally-made pistol was recovered from him.
“The suspects will be arraigned in court upon conclusion of investigations,” he added. (NAN)
