Accused NIDCOM Chairman, Abike Dabiri-Erewa
By ABDULKABIR MUHAMMED
A United Kingdom-based group, Ogbako Ndi Igbo UK, has petitioned President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, demanding the sack of the Chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, for allegedly amplifying bigotry against the Igbo ethnic group of South-Eastern Nigeria.
In a petition dated September 15, 2025, a copy of which is in the possession of News Express, the group alleges that Dabiri-Erewa actively participated in dehumanising the Igbos by reposting malicious content on her X platform in which the ethnic group was referred to as "monkeys", "bastards", and "children of gorillas."
According to the petition co-signed by the President of the Ogbako Ndi Igbo UK, Dr. Charles Ukandu, and its Secretary-General, Barrister Ken Udeoka, "By choosing to repost this content, Hon. Dabiri-Erewa did not just overlook bigotry, she actively participated in it, sanctioned it, and broadcasted this hate speech from her official platform to a national audience.”
The UK-based group have argued that the NIDCOM Chairman's action violates her mandate of promoting unity and inclusion of the Nigerians in the diaspora, claiming that it "constitutes a gross and unforgivable dereliction of duty."
Ndi Igbo UK have consequently dissociated themselves from Dabiri-Erewa's leadership, vowing not to participate in any event or initiative under her auspices.
News Express will later publish the text of the petition for interested parties to read in full.
