SP Yazid Abubakar, Zamfara Police spokesperson
The Zamfara State Police Command has arrested a suspected arms supplier, Nasuru Dawan Jiya, allegedly transporting weapons to bandits in the State.
Police spokesman Yazid Abubakar, in a statement on Tuesday, said operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit intercepted a Toyota Corolla on September 15 along Gummi–Sokoto Road.
A search of the vehicle at Gambanda Godabe village, Gummi LGA, led to the recovery of four AK-47 rifles, 200 rounds of PKT ammunition, 28 rounds of AK-47 ammunition, and four empty AK-47 magazines, concealed in a bag of oranges belonging to the suspect.
During interrogation, Jiya reportedly confessed to conveying the arms to bandits in Gurusu village.
Abubakar said investigations are ongoing, while efforts are being intensified to apprehend other accomplices and dismantle the network. (Daily Trust)
