Gunmen have abducted a corps member and a 300 level student of the University of Jos.
The victims were attacked after gunmen broke into a house in Dong community of Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State.
Mr. Solomon Dansura, whose sister-in-law and guest were abducted, confirmed the incident to journalists in Jos on Tuesday,
She said the kidnappers broke into his house on Sunday night when family members were about to go to bed.
Dansura, who described the incident as worrisome, narrated that three minutes after he went to bed, he heard a strange sound from the window, believing that intruders had entered his house and were trying to break into a room to gain access.
He added that realizing there were criminal elements, he fled through the back door to seek help, but upon returning, found that they had abducted the corps member and the student.
He said “It is a tragic experience because I have never experienced kidnapping. My sister in-law is a corps member serving in Bauchi and preparing for her wedding. The military and police came to the compound after the perpetrators had succeeded in kidnapping the victims.
“The kidnappers called this morning requesting for N50m ransom. They said when they call the next time, I should have the money ready and end the call,” Dansura said.
Fear grips community after abduction
Daily Trust reports that the abduction has reignited widespread fear in Dong, where residents say kidnappings have become too common.
District Head Adagwom Kaze Nyam and community leader Nenfort Clifford, voiced deep concern, urging authorities to urgently deploy more security to protect lives and property.
A woman leader in the area, Mrs. Franca Diwa and youth activist Mildred Bako warned that unless the government acts fast, Dong could soon be deserted despite its closeness to Jos city, as many families are already relocating and putting their homes up for sale.
Hon. Mark Na’ah, member representing Jos North West in the Plateau State House of Assembly, who visited the scene, revealed that suspects earlier linked to similar kidnappings had been arrested but later released without trial.
He called for stronger security and justice to end what he described as a dangerous trend.
Contacted on the development, spokesperson of State Police Command, DSP Alabo Alfred, did not respond to inquiry by correspondent regarding the incident at press time. (Daily Trust)
