Ondo state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka
The Ondo State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a woman, Iluyemi Bosede, for allegedly killing her elder sister, Tewogboye Omowumi, during a dispute over N800 in Akure.
Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka Olushola, said in a statement on Tuesday that the incident occurred on September 6 at about 8:00 p.m.
He explained that the quarrel started when Bosede demanded payment from her 35-year-old sister for tomatoes and pepper.
According to the police, the argument escalated into a physical confrontation, during which Bosede allegedly grabbed her sister by the clothes, causing her to fall. Omowumi was rushed to the hospital but was confirmed dead on arrival.
Commenting on the case, the Commissioner of Police, CP Adebowale Lawal, described the incident as “unfortunate” and urged residents to avoid allowing disagreements to degenerate into violence.
“Disputes, no matter how small, should be resolved through dialogue and not violence. This case shows how avoidable quarrels can end in tragedy,” Lawal said.
The Commissioner assured the public that the suspect would be prosecuted and reiterated the Command’s commitment to safeguarding lives across the state. (The Guardian, excluding headline)
