Most wanted Lagos cultist falls into police net

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested notorious cultist, Balogun Oriyomi (a.k.a Jpron), who has been on the police wanted list for decades, just as it arrested 19 other suspects for robbery and various crimes.

Oriyomi was arrested by the combined effort of policemen from Alade Division and a crack team of Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS) yesterday morning.

Oriyomi, was paraded by the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Police Command, Fatai Owoseni, yesterday, after he was captured after many months of trailing and searching for the suspect, whose gang has been terrorising residents of Shomolu, Pedro, Gbagada and Bariga axis.

According to Owoseni, the suspect was declared wanted not just for cultism but for killing many innocent persons and rendering many homeless, adding that the suspect has also been involved in serial ‘hired killings’ and has been contracted by several gangs to settle private and business scores.

He also said the suspect and his gang were responsible for setting ablaze a popular house in Shomolu called ‘Mashafani House,’ and the killing of several persons in the area in the last six months.

He said: “Detectives have been working assiduously since the gang razed down Mashanfani house, where some ladies were also raped. This led to the arrest of Jpron who happens to be the leader of the gang.

“Jpron is a star suspect because we have been looking for him and he has killed many people. “He has been giving residents of Shomolu sleepless nights. He is an ex-convict and has been in and out of various prisons for rape cases, robbery, cultism and thuggery. He has jumped bail severally.

“He was arrested again on August 24, 2016. He confessed to have been involved in multiple cases of murder. We hope that through him, other members of his gang would be arrested. His gang is responsible for turning Shomolu and Pedro into theatre of war.”

Speaking with journalists, the suspect admitted to the killing of about three persons within Shomolu and its environs.

He said: “I belong to Eiye confraternity and we are always fighting with Aiye over who controls the area. We also fight when they snatch our members’ girlfriend. It was in the course of fighting that I killed two persons. Other members of my gang did the other killings.

“I know why they are blaming me is that I am the leader of the gang. I know I would be held responsible for anything my members do, but I am not responsible for all the killings. I don’t regret anything because I know that every day is for the thief and one day is for the owner.”
