The Kwara State Government on Monday announced the release of the 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) results, noting improvements in student performance across core subjects and a rise in overall enrolment, particularly among female students.

In a statement, Lawal Olohungbebe, Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, attributed the progress to sustained investments by the AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq administration in the state’s education sector.

The commissioner reported that BECE enrolment increased by 27 per cent between 2019 and 2025, rising from 45,761 to 57,787 candidates. Female participation also saw a slight rise, from 47.89 per cent in 2019 to 48.33 per cent in 2025.

“Between 2019 and 2025, the BECE has experienced sustained growth and gradual gains in equity,” Olohungbebe said. “In 2025 alone, enrolment grew from 56,508 in 2024 to 57,787, while attendance improved in most subjects.”

He highlighted gains in core subjects, reporting increases in pass rates: Mathematics (+2.23 percentage points), English (+2.94 pp), National Values (+4.51 pp), History (+3.72 pp), and Pre-Vocational Studies (+3.33 pp). Average scores in these subjects also rose, indicating improvements beyond the pass mark.

“These results show that more candidates are sitting for the examination, and a larger share is achieving success. The system is trending in the right direction,” the commissioner added.

Olohungbebe advised principals, parents, and guardians to collect students’ results from the Ministry of Education beginning Thursday, September 11, 2025, at no cost.

He warned school officials against extortion, emphasizing that “collection of results and scratch cards for checking is entirely free.” (The Guardian)
