She made the call while addressing the 2016 August meeting of the Women of St. Marks Anglican Church, Ogbunike in Oyi Local Government Area.
While addressing the women who gathered at her childhood church parish she said, “I want you to adopt and practice the use of words like please, thank you and sorry. The use of these words in our relationship with fellow human being helps to promote peace everywhere. Of course, arrogance and impudence lead to friction and disagreements.
“So my plea is that we all should love our neighbours as ourselves. I therefore urge you all to work together to build a peaceful society.”
The wife of the governor further acknowledged commendations by earlier speakers for the good job being done by the governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano, who is also a son in-law to the Ogbunike community, saying that the governor’s performance is a result of prayers by well-wishers and Anambra people.
“By the grace of God we will make you proud,” she stated.
She also reiterated her belief in the philosophy of teaching people how to fish rather than offering them fish adding that in that way people are strengthened and motivated to stand on their own without depending on anybody.
Mrs. Obiano enumerated some of the programmes of her NGO, Caring Family Enhancement Initiative (CAFE) to include empowering indigent widows and women with various skills like tailoring, hair dressing, bakery and confectionery, telephone repairs etc and called on the women to enroll to be trained so as to be self-reliant.
Earlier in her speech, the President Home and Abroad of St. Marks Anglican Church Women Ogbunike, Mrs. Eunice Meka told the wife of the governor who is amongst the award recipients that the women decided to honour her among others who have worked for the growth and progress of the church.
In his remarks, President of Ogbunike Progressive Union (OPU), Chief Godwin Ibekwe, expressed their pride in the good works of the governor noting that the state has made great improvement since the days when workers were not paid their regular salaries.
Chief Ibekwe also said that though she came at the invitation of the Anglican Women that Ogbunike turned out in numbers to welcome and reassure her that they are solidly behind her and the governor and will support Governor Obiano for a second term in office.
In his vote of thanks, Archdeacon of St. Marks Anglican Church Ogbunike, Venerable Joseph Nweke, thanked Mrs. Obiano and the governor for supporting the church and the women as well as ensuring that Ogbunike sons and daughters are represented in the government.
Highlight of the event was the honoring of the governor’s wife as “Adadioramma by the Anglican women of St. Marks Ogbunike for her selfless service to the Church and humanity and other awards to eight other women.
