Plateau Killings: We’ve been unjustly labeled as aggressors — Herders

The Coalition of Fulani Registered Organizations in Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State has rejected claims that they are aggressors in the ongoing violence in the state.

The group said this while reacting to the recent accusations by the Bokkos Concerned Youth (BCY) which said herders had sacked over 300 of their communities and killed many members across the LGA.

The herders debunked the allegations, stating that they too have been victims of attacks.

According to Sale Yusuf Adamu, Chairman of the Coalition, they have suffered significant casualties, including the killing of herders and their cattle, destruction of houses, and rustling of cattle.

He said, “Many Fulani families have been forced out of their ancestral communities and their lands grabbed and taken over. 50 communities belonging to Fulani indigenous communities were sacked including Marish, Cherget, Mangwan, Machambe, Kwatas, Dimish 1, Dimish 2, Wumat 1, Wumat 2, Dakin Kowa, Chikam 2, Garau, Bakanu, Dakanu, Angwan Abuja, Getel, Bot, Faranti, BFP Farms, Makada, Woshen, Rui, among others.”

The group further debunked the accusation of colluding with security agencies for a surreptitious object.

“Accusations of Fulani collusion with security forces are speculative and dangerous capable of setting the peace-loving Fulani people of Bokkos LGA against the security forces which we reject in totality.”

While appealing for peace, the chairman called on the government at all levels, security agencies, peace-loving individuals, stakeholders and the international community to disregard the accusations.

The group also appealed to all and sundry to embrace peace, noting that it is crucial for sustainable development across Bokkos and the state. (Daily Trust)
