CP Olohundare Jimoh Moshood, Lagos State Commissioner of Police
A cult clash at the busy Owode Onirin Market in Lagos has left three people dead and a police inspector critically injured.
The Lagos State Police Command has declared one Abiodun Ariori, Chief Executive Officer of Golden Venture Limited, wanted in connection with the violence.
Eyewitnesses said rival cult groups engaged in a fierce battle, wielding guns, machetes and broken bottles.
The injured officer was rushed to the hospital, where he remains in critical condition.
Police spokesperson CSP Benjamin Hundeyin confirmed the incident, assuring that normalcy had been restored after a swift response.
Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, personally led a combined police team to the scene, reopening blocked roads and restoring peace.
“During the clash, three persons sustained fatal injuries and were confirmed dead at the hospital, while a Police Inspector is receiving treatment in a life-threatening condition,” Hundeyin said.
The Command also dismissed rumours of a tribal clash in Balogun Market, clarifying that a separate fight between miscreants led to one fatality and had no ethnic undertone. (Daily Trust)
