Rivers: Robbers break into students’ quarters, cart away valuables

Thieves suspected to be cultists on broke into a compound housing students and other occupants at Ekwulobia Street, Mile 3 Diobu, in Port Harcourt, Rivers State capital, in the early hours of Wednesday.

They robbed some occupants in the compound including two female undergraduate students and carted away their valuables such as phones, laptops, money and other things.

Daily Trust gathered that the suspected cultists reportedly gained access into the compound through a window they broke at the back of the compound and removed the iron protector.

One of the victims, David Ezekiel, said: “I live on the second floor upstairs. So around 4am this early morning 4am, I actually did not hear any noise or anything but I woke up and found out that my phone, that is two phones and a system, was missing.

“Immediately I stepped out just to try and raise the alarm, because I know that the thing just happened because I was awake for a long time during the night.

“Other tenants of the compound were robbed, their rooms also broken into, then coming down to raise the alarm, I saw security personnel outside and my co-tenants who were laying complaints.”

Narrating her ordeal, a female victim simply identified as Chindinma, said the robbers invaded the house around some minutes past 4.

She said: “I heard a noise before I woke up and saw a young guy standing beside the bed with a knife telling me not to shout, that if I scream he is going to stab me with the knife. I was scared, I didn’t know what was going on, but it was like a dream to me.

“That we should be watchful and mind where we go this time around. He took my phone and my brother’s phone. Two phones he took from us and left.”

Police spokesperson in Rivers State, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, is yet to confirm the incident as she neither responded to calls or messages. (Daily Trust)
