Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, has expressed sympathy with victims of the Abuja–Kaduna train derailment which occurred on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, morning, assuring that the situation is under control.
The incident, which happened shortly after the train departed Abuja around 11 a.m., caused panic among passengers and their families.
In a statement issued in Kaduna by the Commissioner Designate, Ministry of Information, Malam Ahmed Maiyaki, the governor directed the Kaduna State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) and the Ministry of Local Government Affairs to immediately mobilize for evacuation, profiling, and treatment of victims at the scene of the accident.
According to Maiyaki, SEMA has been tasked with evacuating stranded passengers, providing emergency support, and ensuring prompt medical attention for those injured.
“The Governor has instructed that every necessary support be extended to passengers to minimize the impact of this unfortunate incident. Any injured persons are to be treated immediately, while psycho-social and medical support are also being provided to affected victims,” the statement noted.
Governor Sani also urged residents of the state to remain calm and continue with their normal activities, assuring that necessary measures have been taken to manage the situation.
“Governor Uba Sani sympathizes with the passengers and their families over this regrettable occurrence and reaffirms the government’s commitment to the safety and well-being of all residents and visitors,” Maiyaki added.
The statement further disclosed that investigations are ongoing to ascertain the cause of the derailment, with the state government working closely with federal authorities and security agencies.
