Over 20,000 rescued from Boko Haram

The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai, says over 20,000 people who were kidnapped by the Boko Haram terrorists in Nigeria’s northeast have been rescued from captivity by troops since he assumed office.

General Buratai equally said that the ongoing counter-insurgency operations in the volatile region would ensure the release of the abducted Chibok girls and others kidnapped by the Boko Haram insurgents.

He spoke to reporters at the commissioning of a nursery and primary school built by the Nigerian Army Officers Wives Association (NAOWA), One Division chapter in Kaduna State.

The Army Chief reiterated that efforts were being made by the military to rescue the Chibok girls alive and completely flush out the terrorists from the troubled region.

He debunked allegations that the salaries and allowances of troops, who sustained injuries at theatre of operations in the northeast, have been suspended.

Buratai appealed to the public to always avail the military or any nearby security agency of any useful information that would lead to the continued success in the counter-insurgency war.
