The Anambra State Governor, Chukwuma Soludo, has assured members of the National Youth Service Corps serving in the state of their safety, describing corps members as a vital part of the state’s development efforts.
While sharing his personal experiences as an NYSC serving member in Oyo State between 1984 and 1985, Soludo on Monday, explained how the scheme exposed him to new cultures and traditions, thereby helping him to overcome culture shock.
The governor stated this while hosting the State Coordinator of the NYSC, Mrs. Pauline Ojisua and other members of the scheme at the New Government House, Awka, on Monday.
He said, “The NYSC helped me conquer culture shock. It was in Ife that I first tasted Amala, Ewedu and Ikokore. Those experiences shaped my outlook in many ways.
“The corps members are vital part of the state’s development efforts. My administration will continue to work closely with NYSC to ensure the welfare, security and productivity of corps members in Anambra.”
Ojisua, while presenting key operational needs of the scheme in the state to the governor, called for the state government’s intervention in critical areas to improve the living and working conditions of corps members.
The welfare and security of corps members topped discussions at the meeting. (The PUNCH)
