CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, Enugu State Commissioner of Police
The Enugu State Police Command has arrested two suspects in connection with the alleged kidnapping and murder of a five-year-old boy, Obodoagu Wisdom, the second cousin of one of the suspects.
The suspects, Obodoagu Ikediekpere Wisdom, 18, and Sunday Michael, 24, a security guard, were apprehended on August 11 and 12, 2025, following intelligence gathered after ransom demands were reported, the police said in a statement on Wednesday.
According to the command’s spokesperson, SP Daniel Ndukwe, the prime suspect, Wisdom, enlisted the help of his accomplice to demand a N1m ransom from the victim’s father.
When the ransom was not paid, he allegedly murdered the child and buried him in a bush near their residence in Okinitor, Amankwo Ngwo, Udi LGA.
“The child was first reported missing on July 26, 2025.
“Investigations revealed that the prime suspect used his accomplice to demand ransom in an attempt to disguise his identity.
“When the ransom was not met, the suspect murdered the child and buried him nearby,” Ndukwe said.
The suspects reportedly confessed to the crime and led police operatives to the scene, where the victim’s body was exhumed in the presence of medical personnel, including a doctor who certified the child dead.
The Enugu State Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, expressed condolences to the bereaved family and assured them that the suspects would be arraigned upon conclusion of investigations. (The PUNCH)
