Tension gripped Sebre village in Ardo Kola Local Government Area of Taraba on Tuesday after a farmer was hacked to death following a dispute with a herder.
Zagazola learnt that the incident occurred at about 12:35 p.m. when Ali Sani, 27, a Fulani herder from Sebre, led his cattle into a melon farm belonging to Danjuma Samaila, 37, a Mumuye farmer from Yale village.
Sources said an argument broke out, during which the herder allegedly attacked Samaila with a machete, inflicting deep cuts on his back. The farmer died instantly, while the herder fled the scene, abandoning 14 cows.
Sani was later spotted at the outskirts of Sebre by aggrieved Mumuye youths, who descended on him with machetes. He sustained serious injuries before being rescued and taken to hospital.
The body of the slain farmer was later evacuated to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Jalingo, where he was confirmed dead.
Meanwhile, tension remains high in Sebre and surrounding villages, though elders and local leaders are said to be engaging youths to prevent further escalation. (Zagazola)
