Police foils attempted jail break in Abakaliki Prisons

The Ebonyi State Police Command on Thursday foiled a jailbreak attempt at the Abakiliki Prisons fueled by hours of intense protest by prison inmates.

They staged a protest, alleging maltreatment and poor welfare by the prison officials.
Confirming the incident, the Ebonyi State Comptroller of Prisons, Mrs Adaobi Oputa, said that the situation had been brought under control.
She further told reporters that the incident, which occurred around 9. 30am, on Thursday happened as a result of some inmates refusing the early morning routine search in their cells.
