Suspended RTEAN Secretary-General, Adeniyi
The Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN) has suspended its Secretary-General, Yusuf Ibrahim Adeniyi, following allegations of misconduct and breach of trust.
The suspension was approved at an emergency meeting of the National Executive Council (NEC) of the association, chaired by the Deputy National President (Administration), Muhammad Abubakar Bishara, in Abuja.
In a statement, the association said the NEC reviewed reports regarding Adeniyi’s conduct and concluded that his actions were inconsistent with the provisions of RTEAN’s constitution.
According to the statement, the suspension takes effect immediately and will remain in place until the completion of an investigation.
“After careful deliberation on the conduct of the Secretary-General, Mr. Yusuf Ibrahim Adeniyi, and upon reviewing the reports before it, the NEC resolved that his actions amounted to misconduct and a breach of trust.
“In accordance with the Association’s constitution, and to safeguard the credibility and cohesion of the organisation, the NEC unanimously decided to suspend Mr. Adeniyi from his position as Secretary-General with immediate effect, pending the outcome of a comprehensive investigation,” the statement read.
To carry out the probe, the NEC set up a seven-member investigative panel headed by Dr. Barrister Samuel Agbede, with Hon. Adamu Zubairu Jalaluddeen as secretary.
Other members of the committee include Adamu Bulama, Alhaji Salman Ayoku, Chief Ifie Orabor, and Alhaji Musa Zuba.
Bishara explained that the committee is mandated to look into all allegations, invite all parties concerned, and submit a detailed report of its findings and recommendations within two months.
Pending the conclusion of the investigation, Deputy Secretary-General, Henry Ugwu, has been appointed to act as Secretary-General of the association.
Bishara further noted that the investigative committee has been granted full powers to obtain documents, summon witnesses, and undertake all lawful actions required to fulfill its mandate. (Saturday Independent)
